San Pedro de Alcántara sits at the western edge of the Marbella municipality, founded in 1860 as a colonist settlement around the Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol. Today it is a town of around 40,000 people built on a grid of palm-lined streets, with a long sandy beach, a buried coastal motorway and one of the most loved promenades on the Costa del Sol. It keeps the rhythm of a Spanish town, daily markets, school runs and tapas after work, while sharing the same beaches, schools and golf courses as the rest of Marbella.
